An Irish company has invented a device that can help you strengthen your pelvic floor muscles before or after childbirth... without doing so much as a Kegel. Studies show that at least one-third of women in Ireland experience urinary incontinence during early pregnancy, while half of women suffer incontinence three months after giving birth. Atlantic Therapeutics's new Innovo is a safe and comfortable non-invasive treatment system that treats the cause of bladder weakness rather than just the symptoms. device-packshot-500x500 So how does it work? Using a hand held controller that is attached to a two-part garment, Innovotherapy sends targeted impulses through two pads attached to your upper thigh and buttocks to activate all the muscles of the pelvic floor. pelvis-diagramme_800x800 With 180 perfect contractions per session, the Innovo essentially does your pelvic floor exercises for you. So far, so fun - and the reviews are good: 93 per cent of women reported significant improvements after four weeks, 86 per cent said they were 'dry or near dry' after 12 weeks. Here, new mum Harriet talks about her experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSY5OiEB9ig So what's the catch? It seems there is none, although the device isn't cheap at €315. If your confidence and lifestyle is severely affected by incontinence however, it could be a small price to pay. More information on Innovo, which can also be used by men with incontinence issues after prostate surgery, is available here.
