Croatian holiday spot to issue €700 fines to badly behaved tourists

The locals are fed up with some of their visitors.

Croatia is fast becoming one of the top holiday spots in Europe - its bustling cities and stunning lakes and beaches make it a must-visit destination. But officials on one of the country's most popular tourist islands, Hvar, will be clamping down on 'anti-social behaviour' with some very harsh new rules. Tourists could be fined up to €700 for bad behaviour, thanks to the island's new mayor Ricardo Novak. According to The Daily Mail, anyone walking around in swimsuits in the island's centre could be hit with a €600 fine. Meanwhile, you could be made to pay €500 for walking around without a t-shirt. The steepest fine of €700 is reserved for public drinking, eating or even sleeping. Signs baring the warning 'Save your money and enjoy Hvar' have been erected around the island. The new rules are an attempt to clean up island antics. "They are vomiting in town, urinating on every corner, walking without T-shirts... crawling around, unconscious," the new mayor said last month of certain visitors to Hvar. The rules would make the island more family friendly, bit could also have a negative impact on tourism.
