A new report by the Health Service Executive has highlighted the disparity in breastfeeding rates in different areas in Ireland. The report found that women in affluent areas of Dublin are three times more likely to breastfeed in comparison to women living in rural areas such as Louth or Donegal. According to The Irish Times, the report showed a difference between the wealthier areas and the deprived areas in Dublin. It also found that just over half of all babies are being breastfed by their mothers by the time of their first visit by a nurse. The numbers dropped by the time of the three-month visit, with one-third of women breastfeeding their babies at this stage.
