I love a baby name list... despite having no bump to name I still trawl them for inspiration for friends' babas (then get irrationally annoyed when they won't name their child Super Hans). I imagine my obsession is something akin to what sports fans get from looking at the Premiership league table (though in saying that I may be exposing my total lack of knowledge of the Premiership league and what that table actually is). One of my biggest motivators for staying abreast of baby name trends is making sure that The Child's name isn't creeping on there behind my back. In the last few years I really felt for all the parents of Sophies and Jacks as these names climbed the charts and stubbornly stayed in the top five. They're gorgeous names for sure (though I would say that wouldn't I?) but being one of 4 Jacks in one class has got to be confusing. Now, at last, the top names are undergoing a welcome shake-up according to US site NameBerry, with both these popular names falling out of the top ten. The list shows girls names are veering towards vintage vibes with Penelope and Violet making an appearance while the boys are a mix between traditional monikers like Henry and James and more hipster offerings like Atticus and Kai.
