Four things you shouldn’t drop your child off at nursery with

Nursery workers do trojan work, let's make it a little easier for them

It's a change that brings lots of new little and large learning curves, from nailing down a sleep schedule to finalising what goes into their backpacks on the daily.

One nursery worker has pinpointed four bugbears based on her experience of working with children that parents would do best to leave at home.

Abigail Fritts (@abigailmf1998) took to TikTok to share these items and leaving them out will make parents' and guardians' lives easier too.

High Tops

Topping the list was high-top shoes with laces simply because young kids cannot tie them up themselves.

This results in a time-consuming task for staff during an already hectic day.

If untied, they run the risk of tripping a child over and hurting themselves.

Sippy Cups

While sippy cups are an easy way to transport a child's liquids, Abigail says they should be avoided.

According to the nursery worker, they can impact speech development.

She explains that young kids get accustomed to having their tongue rest further forward than its natural position, which can result in a lisp.

Outside of this, they have the potential to be very messy if they're dropped and spilt.

Romper Suits/Dungarees

Any romper suits that have buttons down the front can take up valuable time for staff during toilet time.

Similarly, dungarees pose the same problem, even in older children, if they can't open and close the straps themselves.

Dungarees can also pose difficulties for older children, as they are unable to undo them themselves when going to the toilet.

Hair accessories

Lastly, Abigail urges parents to forego pretty hair accessories like bows and hair clips.

They may look cute but they can very easily fall out and get lost.

This may not seem like a major issue, but the nursery worker warns that they are a choking hazard for children.

Because of this danger, staff have to go in search of missing hair accessories to prevent a choking incident.
