Awwww!

One divorced mum's birthday gift for her daughter has gone viral for the heartwarming tale behind it. Earlier this month, Devin Petit tweeted out a photo of the piece of jewellery that her mum was giving her for her upcoming 21st birthday. And while it's an absolutely stunning piece of diamond jewellery, the Pennsylvania resident also shared the sweet history behind it. https://twitter.com/devin_petit/status/962867864708542464 On February 11, she explained:
"My mom gave me this necklace this morning as an early birthday gift. "It’s made from the diamonds of her wedding band. "She said although her marriage to my dad didn’t work out, they both agreed I was the best thing to come from it, which is why she wanted me to have it,"
Devin later added:
"She’s genuinely the sweetest, and I’m so thankful to have parents like them.
The tweet really struck a chord with social media users, quickly racking up more than 28,000 retweets and 271,000 likes. https://twitter.com/devin_petit/status/962868104752660481 It led to many children of divorce sharing how their own parents had handled their splits - as well as tales of similar jewellery their parents had given them (or they were planning to give their children.) https://twitter.com/TrumpsSquirrel/status/964302954311376896 https://twitter.com/notman23/status/963595028764479489 https://twitter.com/Maplense/status/964227888194076672 But Devin and her mum, Karen Beardsley, admitted that they were surprised the post went viral. The proud mum told Buzzfeed:
"I wanted to give her a special gift for her 21st birthday and I know she likes jewelry as much as I do. "I think it represents successful co-parenting over the years and the love that both her dad and I have for her."
