Australian senator becomes first to breastfeed in parliament

It's a big step forward.

Australian Senator Larissa Waters has become the first politician to breastfeed in her country's parliament. The Green Party representative fed her two month old daughter Alia May during a vote in the senate yesterday, according to NDTV. She posted to Twitter to express her pride at the historic moment.

The Australian parliament introduced new laws last year allowing women to feed their children there in support of a more "family friendly" environment. Australian MP Kirstie Marshall was ejected from the parliament in 2002 when she attempted to breastfeed her 12 day old daughter in the chamber.
