Our daughter had a crazy 24-hour bug last weekend that seemed to come out of nowhere, swooped in and took over our Friday to Saturday night and disappeared off again just as quickly. It was great that it didn't last too long but while we were in the thick of it we were really concerned and stressed out about her welfare. Her temperature soared for the duration of the bug, she was miserably hot and bothered, in pain and was completely off her food. As we had recently moved back into our home having had some building work done, I hadn't really checked the status of our medicine cabinet for a couple of months and boy did I regret that last weekend. Most of what we needed was out of date or missing and so we wasted time in a panicked state, texting friends and family for the essentials that we needed. Here are the 6 items that every family medicine cabinet needs to stay stocked up on: 1. A Thermometer We've found that a digital thermometer works best for us as when one of the kids have a fever, they hate us to interfere with their bodies in any way. This one is fun too because it beeps and then you can ask them to check for mum and dad's temperature too, and hopefully take their minds off how sick they feel. 2. Teething Gel Most of my children's ailments up to the age of 3 have been brought on by teething. A really good teething gel is essential to have to hand to help relieve those sore and swollen gums. 3. Folic Acid If you are planning or expecting a baby, you need to be taking the right amount of folic acid into your daily diet. Taking a supplement every morning such as Clonfolic is a handy way of making sure that your folic acid levels are correct. 4. Suncream I keep suncream in the fridge at all times and pop some onto the children face, arms and legs after breakfast every morning. Even if the sun isn't splitting the stones, it is so important to make sure there is no chance of overexposure to the sun for their precious skin. 5. Paracetomol Every parent needs paracetamol in the press! Being busy with the kids and their needs means you really never have time to be sick and so a quick-fix for pain relief is an absolute must. 6. Caldesene Powder Nappy rash is SO painful for our little ones, especially if they are teething and the nappies are really bad. Protect their little bums with a layer of Caldesene Protective Powder to heal nappy rash and prevent it from returning. Join the conversation on Twitter @HerFamilydotie
