‘We’ll leave it there so.’ Broadcasting legend Bill O’Herlihy has died

RTÉ television presenter and broadcaster Bill O'Herlihy has died. The 76-year-old Corkman, who retired last year after 49 years on the air, is survived by his wife Hilary and daughters Gill and Sally. O'Herlihy started his career writing for the Cork Examiner at the age of 16. He later covered ten World Cups and ten Olympic Games on RTÉ television while fronting the ever popular sports panel alongside Eamon Dunphy and John Giles and running his PR firm O’Herlihy Communications. He survived a heart attack in 1984 and had an operation to remove a tumour from his colon in 2007. In April he told a newspaper that he was "as happy as Larry" in retirement.
