Urgent recall issued for 18 items in Irish supermarkets over possible listeria presence

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued an urgent recall on 18 products sold in Ireland and the UK.

The products are from Greenyard Frozen UK Ltd. They have been recalled from Tesco, Lidl, Brakes and Iceland. The recall was issued as a "precautionary step" due to fears the products could contain listeria monocytogenes. This is the species of pathogenic bacteria that can cause the infection listeriosis. Listeriosis is a serious disease that can be life threatening, particularly for pregnant women, the elderly and people with a weakened immune system. The affected batches include items like bags of mixed vegetables; steam bags containing carrot, broccoli and sweetcorn'; resealable bags of sweetcorn; and supersweet sweetcorn. A full list is included below: Customers are advised to not eat any products that may be included in these batches. Instead, the FSAI advises people to return the product to the store where it was purchased. Anyone who is feeling unwell should seek medical advice. Environmental Health Officers have been asked, as part of routine inspections, to check businesses to determine if the impacted batches are on sale. If found on sale, the FSAI advises:

"EHOs should oversee a recall and ensure a point-of-sale notice is displayed in store. Please notify the FSAI (foodincidents@fsai.ie) of the name and address of any suppliers of these batches."
