A Mayo family is painting the town of Ballinrobe pink after welcoming the first female addition to the bloodline in 117 years.  Baby Saoirse Grace May arrived on Thursday at Galway University Hospital, breaking a tradition that has stood since 1898 and giving parents Leanne and Laurence the surprise of their lives.
Speaking to The Mayo News, the proud daddy said:
“I checked the census records from 1901 and the last girl to be born in the family was 1898 when my grand aunt Anne was born. Anne would have been Saoirse’s great grand aunt.”
“My grandfather Laurence May was one of a family of six, two boys and four girls, the youngest of which was Anne May.”
Looks like this little lady has successfully avoided the dreaded hand-me-downs for life.
