A seven-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot while trick-or-treating in Chicago.
The girl was trick-or-treating with her father last night in the Little Village area when she was hit in the upper chest area by a stray bullet.
Authorities said that she was rushed to Stroger Hospital in a critical condition. A 30-year-old man was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
TIME reports that a group of males were chasing another male down the street before shots were fired.
It is not yet known if the wounded man was with the seven-year-old girl, or if he was the group's intended victim.
“This is unacceptable,” said police sergeant Rocco Alioto.
“A seven-year-old girl that was trick-or-treating with her family had to get shot because a group of guys want to shoot at another male.”
A witness who works in a nearby store told the Chicago Tribune: “We heard the shots… four shots, and I went outside."
“The girl’s father was screaming, ‘My little girl’s been shot.'”
Police are currently investigating the existence of CCTV footage detailing the incident.
