Authorities are investigating a "new suspect" in the Madeleine McCann disappearance, a Portuguese newspaper has claimed.

Correio da Manha reports that police are looking into a new line of inquiry involving a new suspect as well as a "new clue."
“Police are following new Maddie kidnap clues,” the tabloid stated on Friday. “More inspectors are advancing with an investigation into a new suspect."
"A new clue and a new suspect, which the PJ (Policia Judiciaria) are trying to keep an absolute secret, has led to new resources being put in place to investigate the little girl’s whereabouts."
The paper added that the new investigation is not related to Kate and Gerry McCann who were cleared of arguido, or suspect, status some time after their daughter went missing.
Today marks the 12th anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance from her parents' rental apartment in Praia da Luz in 2007.
She had been asleep in her bedroom with two other siblings when it is believed that an intruder entered the apartment and kidnapped her.
Madeleine, who would now be 16-years-old, has not been seen since.
The Telegraph reports that a Policia spokesman has refused to comment on the report in the Portuguese press.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard also refused to comment on the report.
The spokesman said: "The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann remains ongoing. We are not providing a running commentary."
This comes following a renewed interest in the Madeleine McCann case due to the
recent Netflix docu-series about her disappearance.
The eight-part series provided a fresh look at the details surrounding the investigation, the media frenzy around Madeleine's disappearance, and the eventually clearing of Gerry and Kate's names.
The parents were asked to appear in the series but declined as they felt it could "hinder" the investigation.
