NEWS: Children under six face a longer wait for free GP care

Parents looking forward to a proposed scheme offering free GP care to children under six, face a longer wait after the National Association of General Practitioners called on its members not to sign up to the deal. Responding to the group's accusation that the the plan for universal access is "morally reprehensible," Health Minister Leo Varadkar said that all GPs were self employed so it was up to them to decide what to do. He added that he believes most would see the benefits of the additional resources and better outcomes that would come as a result of the scheme. The HSE set aside €25m in this year’s budget for free GP care for children under the age of six, but the revolt over plans spells another setback.
