Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding an alleged assault of a teenage girl in north Kilkenny earlier this afternoon. The incident took place outside Johnstown after midday when a 17 year old girl sustained an injury and was rushed to hospital. Gardaí in Kilkenny are hoping to speak with the victim this afternoon. It is understood that she suffered minor physical injuries but has been left traumatised by the incident. The Mirror reports that she is believed to have been out walking when she was assaulted. Her alleged attacker then fled the scene. Gardaí are continuing to search the area by foot and by helicopter. A Garda spokesperson told the publication: "An Garda Síochána are currently responding to a report in Johnstown, Co. Kilkenny, which occurred shortly before lunch time. "At this very early stage An Garda Síochána cannot confirm the exact nature of any alleged incident. "An Garda Síochána will provide clarification as soon as we are able to do so."
