Facebook to warn parents when sharing photos of their kids online

If you or someone you know likes to post snaps of their children on Facebook, this new feature could be very helpful. The social media giant is planning to warn parents when they are about to share a photograph of their kids with a ‘public’ audience before they click publish. This will allow them to correct their settings and choose a specific audience, for example just friends and family, to see the picture in question. According to Metro UK, the vice president of engineering at Facebook, revealed the new feature at an event this week. Jay Parikh explained: “If I were to upload a photo of my kids playing at the park and I accidentally had it shared with the public, this system could say, ‘Hey wait a minute, this is a photo of your kids, normally you post this to just your family members, are you sure you want to do this?’ “I think it’s a nice intelligent way for us to help you manage all of the data and the information around you.” It is believed that as well as making sure parents know what content they are sharing with who, it will assist Facebook in keeping track of objectionable content. We happen to think it’s a great idea considering how many times we’ve put up a picture of ourselves that we later decide to take down!
