Parents can do their best to teach their children to have inner strength, to feel good about themselves and to have fun and not feel self-conscious, but sadly can't make other adults do the same. There likely isn't an anyone out there who didn't experience a confusing comment from an adult about their physique as a child. It can range from a relative telling you to "stop growing" to an elderly family friend indelicately calling you a "bigger girl"; adults tend to comment on kids' bodies and whether they mean it or not, can come across as insensitive - or just plain odd - when doing so. This is what happened when Donald Trump greeted trick-or-treaters in the White House's Oval Office yesterday. It's long been tradition for members of the press' children to visit at Halloween in fancy dress and meet the president. This was the first time Donald Trump was on the job and it was a little uncomfortable. "You have no weight problems," he said to one little girl he was handing out sweets to. "That's the good news, right?" The notion that his comment was harmless because it was complimentary misses the point completely - mentioning a child's body in this or any setting is not cool.
