Women who have had a Caesarean section are two times more likely to find sex painful 12 months after the birth of their baby compared to mothers who deliver their baby vaginally, according to new research. How and when you decide to start having sex again after you give birth (or if, for that matter) is entirely down to personal choice, but researchers from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in Victoria, Australia also discovered that the majority of women are happy to get their groove on again after three months. According to the research, 78% of women had started having sex again within three months, 98% within six months and 98% 18 months after delivering their baby. Study author Ellie McDonald commented: “The fact that pain during sex is more common among women experiencing operative procedures points to the need for focusing clinical attention on ways to help women experiencing ongoing illness, and increased efforts to prevent illness after birth where possible.”
