Broadcasting legend Derek Davis has died, age 67

Irish broadcasting legend Derek David has died, aged 67. A self-described extrovert, the Dublin-born presenter spent 11 years in the newsroom at RTE. During his career he co-hosted Live at 3, presented Out of the Blue and won Celebrity Bainisteoir. He also presented the Rose of Tralee on one occasion in 1995 when Gay Byrne was taken ill at short notice. Last year, after becoming a grandfather for the first time, Davis lost five stone following a major operation called a sleeve gastrectomy, where the stomach is reduced in size.
