The young woman died in East Africa on Friday.

Majella Duffy from Fermoy, Co Cork has died while taking part in a charity climb, ascending Mount Kilimanjaro – Africa’s highest mountain. Her death was confirmed on Friday by adventure holiday organisers Earth’s Edge who issued a statement saying, “A client of ours has passed away on the 14th July 2017 at 8.15am local time while on Kilimanjaro. Our thoughts and condolences are with her family.” It's believed Majella and the group of Irish climbers she was with were at 4,000 metres altitude when she became unwell. Although a doctor was reportedly at the scene, nothing could be done. The 35-year-old was raising money and awareness for heart disease, a cause which was very dear to her as she lost her own father from a heart attack during her teens. Earlier this month she raised over €8000 for the Irish Heart Foundation, her favourite charity. The exact cause of Majella’s death is not yet known.
