A grandmother in Meath has said that she was punched during a car-jacking.

The 62-year-old woman thought that the attack was a prank until she was physically assaulted. The attack occured as the woman parked her Renault Megane in a Co Meath housing estate at 5.45am on Wednesday. The victim, Mairead Cregan, works three days a week in Dublin and typically journeys with her daughter Edel. Speaking to LMFM Radio Mairead said;
"Thank God I was there before her and she was late because she’s heavily pregnant. He dragged me out of it and I started to scream for all of Ireland. I was still screaming and the fellow who was going to drive the car, he threw a punch at me."
Ms Cregan went on to say that she recognised her assailants, two men in approximately their twenties.
"I don’t know them personally but I know where they came from."
Gardai are currently investigating the situation.
