It goes without saying that a healthy diet contributes to healthy skin.

We've all pondered about a mysterious patch of spots on our chin, only to remember that we overdid it on the chocolate and takeaways last week; so it's worth keeping diet in mind when trying to clear up problem skin. Food also plays a big role in anti-aging - at least, according to one expert. Melanie McGrice, an Aussie dietician, believes that what we eat can have a major effect on how we age. She told the Daily Mail that a low GI diet is key for keeping skin young, as is avoiding alcohol and drinking plenty of water.   These are her top six anti-aging foods. Sweet potatoes These are low GI and high in Vitamin A, which keeps skin from becoming dry and prone to wrinkles Garlic Garlic boosts blood flow and contains an antioxidant called allicin which helps to fight free radicals pollution, smoke and UV rays. Spinach High in vitamins A and C. Oily fish The omega 3 in fish like salmon isn't just good for your brain - it'll keep your skin looking glowy. Kale This leafy green is loaded with carotenoids which are thought to prevent collagen depletion. Apples Apples are low GI, great for collagen production and having a healthy snack on hand helps me to avoid being tempted by sugary treats," says Katie.
