Ed Sheeran has donated £1 million to local charities amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The 'Shape of You' singer pledged a portion of his wealth to various funds and initiatives near his home in Suffolk, England this week in a bid to help those worst affected by the virus. This includes children's wards in an Ipswich hospital and several local charities. “It is a horrible time and Ed wants to do what he can to help," a source told The Sun.  “He has split a seven-figure sum between local charities to try to ease the strain on his local community. Ed is very involved in the area and knows that his donations will make a massive difference. "They are extremely grateful.” Sheeran is among the latest batch of celebrities and/or rich people who have taken it upon themselves to donate a portion of their fortune to those less fortunate amid the Covid-19 outbreak. Last week, George and Amal Clooney donated over $1 million to coronavirus relief funds including financial assistance initiatives and the NHS. Before that, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds announced that they had donated $1 million to food banks in America and Canada, while Rihanna's Clara Lionel Foundation has donated $5 million to global relief funds. Sheeran announced his decision to take a break from music late last year. ed sheeran The musician confirmed his 18-month hiatus from touring following a gig in Ipswich in December, saying that it had been "a bit non-stop since 2017." "I'm just gonna take a breather to travel, write and read," he said. "I'll be off all social media until it's time to come back. "To my family and friends, see ya when I see ya - and to my fans, thank you for always being amazing, I promise to be back with some new music when the time is right and I've lived a little more to actually have something to write about." After this? I'm sure you will, Ed.
